The Upbeat Collective. do.be.do. ♫
A movement for positive social change where everyday people make a real difference.
As the winning recipient of the 2013 Unitec Staff Success Award, I formed the Upbeat Collective initiative, creating and drawing awareness to various events that promoted positive wellbeing and incited people to 'give back' to others.
The initiatives included:
- Entering a team into the Cancer Society's "Walking Stars" event and collectively fundraising over $3800.
- "Do. Be. Do. Sources of Inspiration" event on 29 Nov 2014 held at Unitec Marae, Auckland. The event featured 10 guest speakers providing anecdotes of how they have contributed positively to their community.
- An open screening of the acclaimed documentary film "Happy".
- Handing out free baking to attendees of the ANZAC Day parade in Onehunga.

Project |Unitec Keeping it Real

Inspired by the richness of Unitec's diverse campuses, the Unitec Keeping it Real Facebook page was created as a way to capture the narrative and voices of the students, graduates and staff in an accessible form.
Auckland is viewed as the ethnically most diverse city in Australasia and we all have a shared motivation to succeed and achieve. We are guided by our own values, interests, skills and personality; no two people are ever exactly the same.
By taking inspiration from Humans of New York, and Faces of ANU, this page is Unitec’s way of paying respect to the Unitec community in an online forum. In addition to highlighting the stories of students, graduates and staff, the page will also promote the essential support services at Unitec.
